The Art of Polishing hand-made pens for Pen Makers

Posted by Nicholas Mayne at

When you have been busy creating pen body parts for hand-made pens, how would you finish it?  Here is a simple demonstration showing how quick and easy it can be using an efficient method -

Pen making materials like Kirinite and Acrylic can be sanded to a very fine finish. By using wet sanding, the pen body can be sanded at a higher speed, with water keeping the material cool. Starting with Net abrasives from P240 down to P400, then porous foam backed abrasives are used working from P600 down to P4000. To finally polish the surface, the Rustins Burnishing cream produces an excellent glossy finish when used on a damp kitchen paper towel.
